Part of Galveston County in the Houston area, League City, Texas is home to about 84,000 people. League City is also home to several attractions and is close to a number of sites of interest. One of the sites is the West Bay Common School Children’s Museum. This museum takes you back to the time of the one-room school house. At the museum, a typical 1890’s school day comes to life. Children who visit the recreated school can experience a typical school day in the year, 1898.
Another site of note in League City, Texas is the Butler Longhorn Museum. This museum gives the visitor a better understanding of the events that molded Texas and the American West. It highlights League City’s part in saving the Longhorn Cattle breed from extinction.
Not only can you enjoy the exhibits at the museum, you can take advantage of the attractions that lie on the 10-acre park where the museum stands. Located in a shaded area of League City’s historic district, the museum site is home to picnic areas, a fish pond, walking path, and playground.
Inside the museum, you can visit a movie theater, complete with refreshments and popcorn, art gallery, gift shop, and research facility. The place is available for weddings, meetings, private tours, and school activities.
Another museum of note in League City is the Italian Heritage Museum. Also known as the Ghirardi House, the museum commemorates the heritage of League City. The building, which was built in the early twentieth century, was owned, at one time, by the founder of League City,J.C. League. Eventually, the structure was sold to son of the first Italian immigrants to settle in town, Sebastian Ghirardi. Rita Ghirardi donated the building so it could be used as a museum.
